Home Theatre of Social Memory – “Joyful Fun”
The main idea of the project “Home Theatre of Social Memory” is to use the integrative function of theatre to engage the oldest members of the local community—often elderly, disabled, and socially isolated residents of the Giżycko County—as well as seniors living in nursing homes across the region. By adopting the practice of travelling performances, the creators aim to bring theatre directly to places where people live who, due to age or health conditions, are unable to participate in the cultural life of their communities. The project involves the creation of a final performance presented in private homes and nursing homes. Its theme will draw on the experiences and life stories of older people, primarily from rural areas and small towns. The performance will explore the living traditions passed down through generations, as well as the joys and hardships of life in twentieth-century Poland—memories that many elderly participants still carry and are able to share. Final presentations in selected nursing homes will be open to both internal and external audiences, creating space for intergenerational dialogue and enabling younger generations to better understand the needs and experiences of seniors, while also including this often overlooked group of the oldest residents in the cultural life of the local community.
The project is implemented by the Kultura Powiązań Foundation and is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage within the National Centre for Culture programme “Culture – Interventions. Edition 2025”.
The performance “Joyful Fun”
As part of the project, a performance titled “Joyful Fun” was created, featuring:
- Adrianna Cudnik
- Grzegorz Gromek
- Przemysław Wasilkowski
- Maciej Żurek
The themes of the performance refer to the lives, memories, and experiences of older generations — their youth, everyday joys and sorrows, as well as the rich tradition passed down from father to son.
The performance is intended to be not only an artistic event, but also a tribute to memory and to the history of ordinary people who, for decades, have shaped the culture of local communities.
A meeting of generations and shared experience
The “Home Theatre of Social Memory” project focuses on intergenerational dialogue. Viewers — both residents of Social Welfare Homes and invited guests from outside — will be able to experience theatrical emotions together, exchange memories and reflections.
This is an opportunity for younger generations to better understand the needs and experiences of seniors, and for older people to feel once again part of the cultural life of their community.
